Suella Braverman causes conflict within Whitehall yet again

As the UK tries to deal with its crippling political instability, Whitehall seems to be descending into more chaos as tensions between conservatives grow.

It was reported that national security officials looked into Suella Braverman earlier this year as part of a leak investigation.

The claim raises more questions about Rishi Sunak’s decision to reappoint Ms. Braverman as Home Secretary just six days after she quit for mishandling sensitive information and stepped down as home secretary in the final days of Liz Truss’s premiership.

Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey said in a statement regarding the Home Secretary’s reappointment that he had been informed that Ms. Braverman was known as “leaky Sue” among Whitehall staff.

Leak Inquiry

According to a story in the Daily Mail, the rule-breaking minister was previously under investigation in January for a security violation involving a British spy.

The Government Security Group of the Cabinet Office appears to have scrutinized Ms. Braverman, who was attorney general at the time.

The team looked into a leak involving the government’s intention to ask the court to stop the BBC from identifying a spy accused of exploiting his position to terrorize his ex-partner.

The Cabinet Office has not responded to inquiries from the BBC regarding the leak investigation, including whether Ms. Braverman was interrogated, whether the police were engaged, and whether anyone was detained or detained and interrogated under caution. Additionally, inquiries to the attorney general’s office went unanswered.

Whitehall’s reactions

Ms. Braverman’s return to the government has also been questioned by Mr. Berry, who held the position of party chairman under Ms. Truss until being dismissed by Mr. Sunak.

He claimed on Talk TV that Ms. Braverman emailed a document to another MP from a personal email account, intending to copy it to the MP’s wife, but instead sent it to a staff member in Parliament.

“To me, that seems to be a really serious breach – the cabinet secretary had his say at the time. I doubt he has changed his mind in the last six days.”

Mr Berry, former Tory Party chairman

Labour’s shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said, also:

“The prime minister needs to say whether he knew about these allegations when he re-appointed her. Ignoring warnings about security risks when appointing a home secretary is highly irresponsible and dangerous. We need answers now.”

Rishi Sunak’s very first week in office has not turned out to be as smooth as the premiere would have hoped. As the Tory party deals with disaster after disaster when it comes to leadership, many hope that Rishi Sunak might just be what they need to get them back on their feed.

The frequent change of leadership in UK has rattled the country and Ms. Braverman’s controversies only make matters worse.
