It will stream PS5 Games and won’t be able to run games on its own

Nostalgia will hit hard to PSP and PS Vita owners in the past, as some reports suggest that a handheld PlayStation is in development. According to the report, the PlayStation Q Lite handheld device is currently undergoing QA testing. The new device is essentially a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller with an 8-inch LCD screen at its centre. However, there’s a caveat: it’s exclusively compatible with Sony’s PlayStation Remote Play.

The console will not be able to play games on its own, and a strong internet connection would be required for streaming games just like Nintendo Wii U Gamepad. This is less than ideal as it kills the sole purpose of handheld gaming which is to allow gaming on the go and at remote locations.

Project Q lite will support a 1080p screen with a 60Hz refresh rate. It will also feature adaptive triggers and a 3.5mm audio jack. Sony will likely launch it with the upcoming PS5 with a detachable disk drive in September this year.
