Expect no to little upgrades in the optics of the new foldable phones
The Galaxy Fold series have always been lacklustre in the camera department, and according to new reports, that will not change soon. The camera specs of Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 5 have been leaked online, and the hardware has not changed much. Leakster Yogesh Brar shared the info on Twitter.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will feature a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera. However, there is currently no information available regarding the focal length of the telephoto camera. Nonetheless, it will likely be similar to last year’s Fold, which offered a 3x camera instead of a 5x or 10x shooter.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is rumoured to sport a dual 12MP rear camera system consisting of a 12MP primary shooter and a 12MP ultrawide camera. Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that a telephoto camera will be included in this model.
Despite the similar specs, the phones will reportedly receive new image sensors. While the details are unclear at this point, it’s possible that these sensors could improve low-light image quality, which has been a persistent issue with previous models. In addition to the cameras, the phones are expected to receive an improved hinge design, larger outer displays (which may include thinner bezels for the Z Fold 5), and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset. According to some other leaks, the Z Fold 5 will be a bit wider and taller than Z Fold 4.
While it may be disappointing to see little change in the camera specifications for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, the promise of new image sensors and other exciting features make these devices worth looking forward to.
