It was reported on Sunday night that a former Twitter official claimed the business had been informed about attempts by foreign nations to influence the 2020 election using a so-called “hack-and-leak” method.
Yoel Roth, the former global head of trust and safety at Twitter, made the admission a few weeks after the 2020 presidential election and approximately two months after the site had restricted access to a New York Post article regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop.
‘I was told in these meetings that the intelligence community expected that individuals associated with political campaigns would be subject to hacking attacks and that material obtained through those hacking attacks would likely be disseminated over social media platforms, including Twitter,’ Roth said according to the Post.
The team that suppressed the Post’s revelation of Hunter Biden’s dubious international business transactions, which relied on documents acquired from a laptop that was apparently Hunter’s, was overseen by Roth, who quit after Elon Musk’s recent acquisition of Twitter. Users were prohibited by Twitter from sharing the information and from sending links to other users in private messages. Much of the content recovered from the device, which was abandoned at a Delaware repair shop in April 2019, was later proved to be legitimate by mainstream media outlets like the Washington Post and New York Times. It happens in the wake of the Elon Musk-backed Twitter “exposé,” which purported to provide evidence that the site, which he just paid $44 billion for, colluded with Democrats to swing the 2020 election.
It was mostly based on conversations between senior Twitter personnel over the platform’s removal of the notorious Post story from October 2020.
The released emails reveal Twitter staff members arguing back and forth about how the story was censored in accordance with the website’s policies on hacked materials. It seems that several of the platform’s top managers were uncertain about whether Hunter Biden’s laptop had been accessed by dishonest means.
