According to a SteamDB update

Browsing the SteamDB reveals there’s an update to Quake II. While this can be due to the fact that id Software is updating all of its major titles, but nothing has been official.

id Software is likely to do a remaster pending the sales for the first Quake remaster were solid. The first Quake was met with positive reviews on Switch which might convince id to push forward.

Quake II was originally released in 1997 but was technically never a direct sequel. Its storyline continued in the fourth instalment since the third entry focused on multiplayer.
