Expected to present its new flagship smartphone later this year,  Xiaomi 12T renders and specs leaked in advance

The 12T and 12T Pro are the new top-of-the-line smartphones from Xiaomi. A German website obtained high-resolution renders before the official presentation – which is why we now have an idea of what to expect from this new phone.

The Xiaomi 12T Pro has an AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 6.67 inches, a resolution of 2712×1220 pixels, and a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hertz. The resolution of the screen is even better than Full HD. It has a cover made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is mostly scratch-proof.

Underneath the hood is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1, which is the top SoC found in many other Android flagship phones. It has eight cores that can run at up to 3.2 gigahertz and 5G connectivity. It comes with 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of fast UFS flash. In some countries, there are also versions with only 8 GB of RAM.

One of the standout features of the Xiaomi 12T Pro is its cameras. It is the first smartphone made by the Chinese company to have a new 200-megapixel sensor.

The battery of the Xiaomi 12T Pro is 5000mAh and can be charged quickly using fast charging – the maximum charging power is specified as 120 watts. Unlike Samsung or Apple, Xiaomi also provides the device with a power supply unit. Of course, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and Wi-Fi 6 are also on board.

These features suggest the phone could be very competitive with other flagship phones in the market. However, it may boil down to the pricepoint it’s being sold at. If the price matches that of the Pixel, or Apple and Samsung’s flagship phones – users may simply opt to buy the more popular flagship series. As such, despite these exciting features; they may not be enough to compete with newer flagship phones.

Like many other smartphone manufacturers, Xiaomi has also opted to release both a standard and pro version of the device. While both smartphones are not significantly different, there are some key differences that users may want to consider.

The platform, the storage gear, and the cameras are the main things that are different. Instead of the Snapdragon SoC, the Xiaomi 12T has the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Ultra, which is an octa-core platform with a built-in 5G modem. The four high-end cores can go up to 2.85 gigahertz, while the energy-saving cores can go up to 2.0 GHz.

In the 12T model, a 108-megapixel primary camera is used instead but it offers a very big F/1.65 aperture in place of the 200-megapixel sensor of the Pro variant. There is an ultra wide-angle camera with eight megapixels, a 2 MP camera for taking close-up photos, and a 20 megapixel camera on the front.

While the price for these smartphones hasn’t been discussed beyond rumors, you may expect this phone to be pricier than the typical Xiaomi phone given the specs used.
