Dead Island 2

The proof of concept is for Yager’s version of Dead Island 2. They were the original company hired to develop the game in 2012.

Dead Island 2 has been in development for so long that many thought it will never come out. Thankfully, that’s not happening. The game was re-revealed yesterday during Gamescom with a release date of February 3, 2023.

The official reveal wasn’t the only important thing that happened recently. Today, a proof of concept trailer of the game found its way to Reddit. User Seatheowerouch, who leaked the footage, claims that he found the trailer on one of his old USBs.

According to the leaker, the trailer was made in 2012 and belongs to the game’s original developer, Yager Development. The trailer consists of real-life news footage, fictional clips by the developer, and small snippets of gameplay at the end. As you would expect, the gameplay looks very unpolished and unfinished.

Yager Development was the first studio hired to develop Dead Island 2 in 2012. They were taken off the project in 2015. The following year, the game received a UK-based developer, Sumo Digital, who themselves were removed in 2019.

The latest and current studio in charge of developing the game is Dambuster Studios, which is a subsidiary of the publisher, Deep Silver.
