Similar Design to Pixel 7 Pro with an Extra Camera

Google has managed to create a unique design for its Pixel phones, making them easily recognizable, like iPhones. The upcoming Pixel 8 Pro is expected to continue this trend, as leaked renders and a 360-degree video shared by popular leakster Steve H. McFly suggest.

The video and images show a slightly revamped chassis that ditches the angular contours of its forerunner for smoother, rounded edges. Notably, the camera unit has undergone a substantial overhaul, featuring a consolidated oval section housing all three lenses. Below the flash, a new sensor can be seen, the exact purpose of which is shrouded in mystery. It could serve as a macro or depth sensor or introduce an entirely new sensor technology.

The Pixel 8 Pro boasts a roughly 6.52-inch screen with a centred punch-hole selfie camera and a flat panel instead of a curved one. The device’s dimensions are 162.6×76.5×8.7mm, with a thickness of about 12mm when accounting for the camera bump. The display has been resized to make the phone more compact, resulting in more rounded corners.

The USB Type-C port and speakers are located at the bottom edge, while the top edge remains unoccupied. On the right edge, the power button and volume rocker are positioned, while the Google logo graces the back of the device. Lastly, the SIM tray is situated on the left edge.

Specs

The third-gen Google Tensor chipset and top-tier specifications will power the Pixel 8 series. It is supposed to be based on Samsung’s forthcoming Exynos 2300 CPU and utilize their cutting-edge 3nm node technology. The Tensor G3 chipset might improve performance and efficiency because the present Google Tensor G2 chipset is built on 5nm technology.

Google’s camera technology will also be upgraded for the next flagship iteration. We might see some advanced zoom capabilities and portrait mode, as the additional camera might assist.

Release

According to reports from December, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have been given the codenames “shiba” and “husky,” respectively, and are slated to be launched in the second half of 2023. We might see a sneak peek of the device at the Google I/O event in May 2023.
