Game Pass

Acquiring a Japanese publisher will help Microsoft diversify the Game Pass library even more.

Microsoft’s buying spree isn’t coming to a close anytime soon. The trillion-dollar company aims to acquire even more video game studios to better compete with PlayStation.

According to Former FanByte and Game Informer writer Imran Khan, Microsoft has been talking to several Japanese publishers about acquisitions. The Xbox owner wants to beef up the Game Pass Library.

Khan further added that Microsoft is interested in acquisition as licensing fees for third-party games on Game Pass can be really expensive.

Game Pass might be worth every penny. However, there’s no doubt that it’s severely lacking in good eastern games, an issue that can be easily remedied by purchasing a Japanese publisher.

Japan is home to several major publishing companies like Capcom, Square Enix, Namco Bandai, Konami, Sega, and more. Technically, Sony and Nintendo are also based there, but I don’t think Microsoft will be purchasing them anytime soon.

Purchasing any more studios could be troublesome for Microsoft. The company is already being scrutinized for monopoly as they try to acquire Activision Blizzard for $69 Billion. The said acquisition deal was announced early this year and still hasn’t been approved by the world’s governments.
