Horizon Zero Dawn

The 2017 title is getting uplifted for PS5 and a multiplayer title is being developed for PS5 and PC.

A recent leak claims that The Last of Us Part 1 isn’t going to be the only re-release of an older PlayStation game. A report by MP1st suggests that several unknown Horizon-related projects are in the works.

It claims that Horizon Zero Dawn will either get a remake or remaster for PlayStation 5. The same report also mentions a spin-off Horizon multiplayer game in development for both PlayStation 5 and PC.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster/Remake

According to the original leak, the alleged project will feature “an improved lighting system (ambient occlusion, and such), overhauled textures, and better animations, with new character models to match those found in the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.”

The re-release will also feature accessibility options, different graphic modes, and quality-of-life gameplay features.

MP1st clarifies that they aren’t sure if the re-release will be a full-fledged remake akin to The Last of Us Part 1 or if it will be a remaster like Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. Another publication was able to remove this uncertainty. Gematsu corroborated the leak and also claimed that the Horizon Zero Dawn project will be a remaster, not a remake.

Multiplayer Horizon Game

The multiplayer doesn’t come as any surprise. Previous rumors have hinted that an MP game in Horizon universe is in the works. The recent leak just happened to corroborate it.

The MP game will allegedly feature customization around the tribes established in the series. There will also be some co-op elements. MP1st was able to verify the existence of the multiplayer game but not the mentioned gameplay details.

Believable Leak

On the surface, this leak felt false. Why would Sony want to remaster a five-year-old game that still looks incredible? However, several other publications have confirmed the same claims. Along with Gematsu, Video Games Chronicle revealed that their sources say the same thing.

On top of that, one month ago, the reputable leaker Dusk Golem claimed on Reset Era that a PS4-era game is getting a PS5 face-lift. He now clarifies that he was talking about Horizon Zero Dawn, and the re-release will be 100% remaster.

Players will expect an upgrade path if the remaster is real. Many people aren’t going to purchase Zero Dawn again for $60.

The remaster could be very profitable when the Horizon Netflix show drops. Sony would want Netflix viewers to purchase the new expensive better-looking Horizon and not the cheap old one.
